The Exile Trilogy is the epic saga of an ancient tribe of Celtic witches and their animal familiars.  Fleeing the witch hunts, they must hide from the jealousy, contempt and cruelty of the mortals.  They survive centuries of persecution, but find contemporary New York City strangely welcoming of their witch behaviors.  Can they finally be truly free?

Exile

Ceridwen, a Wiccan priestess, and her mockingbird familiar Belanos must flee the witch hunts in Europe and learn to live in the world of mortals. They have a vision of a ship on a wild black ocean, and know they must find it and reach the New World. They are aided on their journey by an old gypsy woman, who disguises them, and a nun, Katherine, who shelters them.

Read about Ceridwen and Belanos’ perilous ocean voyage, where they find that Michael and his snake familiar Aval have also found their way onto the ship.

An atmosphere of suffering and suspicion prevails as the ship makes its way across the sea.

The Circus

Ceridwen and her mockingbird familiar Belanos, and Michael and his snake familiar Aval, arrive safely in the New World, where they are sold as indentured servants. The Tribe contacts them through dreams and visions, and tells them that they have also escaped to the New World and formed a traveling circus. Michael is attacked and brutalized because of his love of men, and Ceridwen and Michael escape to join their Tribe on a stolen horse.

The tribe is frightened and puzzled by the behavior of their audience, the mortals. Then they meet Adam, a mortal they can trust, who teaches them to live in safety. Ceridwen and Adam fall in love and have a baby girl, Branna.

The Tribe travels safely for many decades, and Adam ages and dies. The Tribe vows to always remember Adam and follow his rules, but will they?

20th Century Circus

After several centuries of following Adam’s rules and hiding their true identities, the witches arrive in New York City.

They are shocked to see their witch behaviors practiced openly on the streets, on the subways, and in the clubs. They come to feel safe and realize that they will be accepted, applauded, and even ignored without hiding.

Only Raven heeds her dreams and visions. The others are too exhilarated by their freedom.

Always the most reckless, Michael has an affair with an attractive detective. Trouble starts when the detective becomes suspicious of Michael’s powers and manages to get a sample of his, and Michael’s snake familiar Aval’s, DNA.

Being found out could have devastating consequences for the witches, for the mortals, and even the future of humanity.
